Module S5 (Issue 10 September 2021)
ESW enables a driver to pass two or more main main aspect signals at danger when there is extensive signal failure on a TCB line, other than a single line.
ESW must apply between:
a signal kept at danger on the approach to the affected area
a signal that is working normally at or beyond the affected area
It must be at a place that can be clearly identified such as a station, level crossing, tunnel or junction.
An "end of ESW" sign will be provided as soon as possible but is not required for ESW to commence.
Stop at the entry signal
Signaller advises that ESW is in place and the location to which you must proceed
You complete ESW ticket NR3190 (see below)
You are given authority to pass entry signal at danger

If told you're the first train through: approach points at caution, check they are in the correct position, and no more than 15mph over points
Disregard intermediate signals, stop at exit signal
